Every year, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation—a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the Twin Cities home building industry—recognizes top builders, remodelers, suppliers and individuals for their talent and leadership. This special ceremony takes place at the Building Industry Gala (BIG) Night in October, where each year’s winners proudly accept their awards alongside other leading Minnesota home builders.
This year, Gonyea Companies and Stonegate Builders were honored to take home both Bennie and Reggie Awards for design excellence.
Designing and developing the Eastbrooke neighborhood in Cottage Grove provided the Gonyea Companies and Stonegate Builders teams with a challenging, yet rewarding opportunity. We were able to successfully collaborate with the City of Cottage Grove to help plan, build, and develop a beautiful community of wooded homesites surrounded by scenic hiking trails and breathtaking natural woodlands, perfectly suited for our Stonegate homes plans.
The Challenge:
The original property consisted of 90% wooded area with steep slopes. The challenging landscape and city ordinances created both financial and planning issues for past developers and builders.
The Gonyea Companies/Stonegate Builders Solution:
We knew early on that successful development of the Eastbrooke neighborhood required the city, builder, and developer to provide flexibility with the application of several building codes and practices. The city achieved this through a PUD process while the Stonegate Builders team adjusted their home collections and layouts required for the successful neighborhood build.
The Result:
Gonyea Companies opened their first Stonegate Builders model home in Eastbrooke in March of 2019. Since then, 25% of the beautiful wooded homesites (50 in total) have been sold. The overall success of Eastbrooke demonstrates the growing market appeal of smaller lots paired with meaningful open space, and stunning forest and wetland views. Today, Eastbrooke creates a new benchmark for excellence in neighborhood design and construction in the Twin Cities.
