Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

After a long winter, we have finally made it to Spring! Whether it’s your first spring in your home or your 50th spring in your home, here are some items you will want to check on to ensure your home is ready for spring.

1. Check Mechanical Room Filters

  • Once you stop heating your home, turn off the humidifier and set up a dehumidifier in the mechanical room.
  • Swap out furnace filters. Check to see if you need a furnace tuneup.
  • Check air exchanger and clean and vacuum filters.

2. Schedule/check Sprinkler Set Up

  • Reach out to your landscaping/irrigation company to get sprinklers fired up.
  • Check your lawn sprinkler system for leaky valves, exposed lines, and improperly working sprinkler heads.

3. Check Windows and Doors

  • Clean screens and check for holes.
  • Make sure windowsills and doorsills are all cleaned out so no water builds up.

4. Check Landscaping

  • Cut back and trim all vegetation and overgrown bushes.
  • Pick up any dead leaves leftover from fall.

5. Check Exterior

  • Look for signs of damage to the roof, siding, or foundation.
  • Inspect caulking and replace if deteriorating.
  • Check the condition of your roof surface flashing, eaves, and soffits.

6. Check Outdoor Living Spaces

  • Check all decks, patios, porches, stairs and railing for loose boards and deterioration.
  • Treat or retain any needed wood areas.

7. Check Safety Devices

  • Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors; replace batteries.
  • Check expiration date of your fire extinguisher and replace if needed.
